Hot on the heels of the admission that the company intentionally slows down the processor speed of older iPhones in order to conserve battery quality, new reports have emerged indicating that Apple is working on larger-capacity batteries for the 2019 iteration of the iPhone.
The often reliable Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities mentioned in a recent investors note that Apple has plans to expand iPhone battery capacity in 2019 and 2020, according to Apple Insider. Kuo went on to mention that KGI believes that the tech giant’s “semiconductor manufacturing processes, systems-in-package, and substrate-like printed circuit boards,” are set to allow the Cupertino-based tech giant to fit higher-capacity batteries in the smartphone.
Kuo also said that Apple’s supply chain will soon adopt flexible printed circuit boards starting in 2018.
To put this into perspective, Apple managed to fit dual, L-shaped battery cells in the recently released iPhone X, making the best possible use of the smartphone’s internal space.
Last year, Kuo predicted that Apple’s iPhone X would utilize a two-cell power source, so KGI does have a track record of accurately predicting Apple’s iPhone battery plans.
