Microsoft to detail future of Windows Phone at January event

Microsoft may not have much of a presence at CES, but the company is planning to steal some of January’s spotlight for a Windows 10-centric event.

According to The Verge, Microsoft will announce the consumer features of Windows 10, including a new touch-optimized interface called Continuum. The company is also expected to detail its plans for the future of Windows Phone which, like Windows Phone 8 before it, will further unify elements of desktop and mobile.

Microsoft has already released a Developer Preview of Windows 10, emphasizing the mouse-and-keyboard usability improvements over the largely touch-centric Windows 8. At January’s event, Microsoft is expected to reemphasize that touch is the future, and Windows 10 will make improvements for tablets and larger devices.

A Consumer Preview build of Windows 10 is also expected to be announced at the event in preparation for a full public release in mid-2015.
