One billion people used Facebook on Monday

A historic accomplishment for Facebook occurred on Monday as 1 billion people used the social network in a single day. Started back in 2004, Facebook is now used by 1 in 7 people on Earth, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg claims  “is just the beginning of connecting the whole world.”

Zuckerberg thanked all of Facebook’s many users, noting that “I’m looking forward to seeing what we accomplish together… A more open and connected world is a better world. It brings stronger relationships with those you love, a stronger economy with more opportunities, and a stronger society that reflects all of our values.”

Facebook’s Q2 results recently revealed the company has amassed 1.49-billion monthly active users with revenues topping $4.04-billion. In addition, mobile played a big role as 1.31-billion users accessed the site through their device, which is an increase of 5.76 percent over the previous quarter.

Unfortunately, the 1 billion milestone was not broken down by country nor how people accessed the site.
