Samsung has begun its rollout of a small over-the-air software update that fixes the Exynos 4 vulnerability we reported several weeks ago. The company promised a swift and definitive turnaround on the issue and seems to have made good on its promise.
The update is limited to Galaxy S III’s in the United Kingdom, but Canadian devices should be close behind. These include the Galaxy S II i9100, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1.
Samsung’s update also reportedly fixes any “sudden death” issues that users have been experiencing; some devices have reportedly been bricked by the Android 4.1.2 update, though it’s not clear whether the issue only affects Exynos SoCs or if it spans to the North American Qualcomm version, too.
Samsung Canada has yet to roll out an update to the Galaxy Note II line which implements multi-window support; it’s possible that the delay is due to the company’s desire to implement the Exynos 4 fix with the larger feature update.
