Confirming a report from subscription-only tech site, The Information, a leaked screenshot of Google’s EnergySense thermostat by evleaks indicates that the company is getting into the automated home arena.
Though it’s not clear whether the app, seen above, would communicate with a Google-branded thermostat or merely be used as an API for other Internet-connected home appliances, the proof is in front of us: Google wants to be a part of your home, as well as your ‘net.
EnergySense, according to the report, is being created by a third-party vendor, but will undoubtedly be sold to users of Google’s services across iOS and Android. Google is a widely-known proponent of “green” energy, promoting low-power data centres and clean grid-based power whenever possible. But on the less fuzzy side, there is clearly plenty of money to be made in disrupting home technology, as evinced by Nest and, to a lesser extent, Belkin et al.
