CRTC establishes Commissioner for Complaints

As the Canadian wireless industry continues to grow, the CRTC has granted conditional approval and established a new consumer agency called the “Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services”. The mandate is to resolve complaints from individual and small business retail customers and set general guidelines.

The CRTC is requesting the agency over the next 45 days to make certain modifications to its proposed structure and mandate to ensure its effectiveness and independence from the telecommunications industry. The CRTC determined that all Canadian telecommunications service organizations with revenues exceed $10 million are required to be members of the agency by February 1, 2008.
