BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 beta shows a 1280×768 icon, next PlayBook resolution?

Last week RIM said they expect a $485 million loss in Q3, mainly attributed to poor sales of their first PlayBook tablet. In the press release it was noted that they are “committed to the BlackBerry PlayBook and believes the tablet market is still in its infancy”. Next year we’ll finally have native email, contacts, calendar and Android apps… these will be added when PlayBook OS 2.0 is released in February.

We’ll also probably see a 4G/LTE version of the PlayBook, plus it just might get a bump up in screen resolution. The screenshot above was captured from the PlayBook OS 2.0 beta and shows an LTE version in the works, but also an icon with a screen resolution of 1280×768. The BlackBerry “Forest” code name surfaced a few days ago, this is rumoured to have a 10-inch display, and this resolution would fit nicely in it.

Other manufacturers have the following resolution on their tablets:
LG Optimus Pad: 1280 x 768 (8.9-inches)
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1: 1280 x 800 (10.1 inches)
Apple iPad 2: 1024 x 768 (9.7-inches)
HTC Flyer: 1024 x 600 (7-inches)
Sony Tablet S: 1280 x 800 (9.4-inches)
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9: 1280 x 800 (8.9-inches)

Or, quite possibly, the 1280×780 res could be implemented into the upcoming “BlackBerry X” devices.
Hopefully more info soon!
