Videotron adds U.S.-Canada calling, text and data usage to Premium plans

Videotron

Quebecois telecom Videotron has now bundled U.S. coverage within its Premium plans, at least for new customers.

With the new Premium plans users can call, text or use data in the U.S. without any extra fees.

The plans now give customers a more affordable option than the retired Canada-U.S. ‘Without Borders’ packages. The ‘Without Borders’ plans started at $54.95 CAD for 2GB, while the Premium plans offer 4GB at the same price.

Premium plans include: 6GB for $54.95 per month, 7GB for $60.95 per month and 8GB for $67.95 per month BYOD. Oddly enough, Videotron’s Premium+ plans do not offer the U.S. coverage feature.

To note: the Premium plans can only be used in the U.S. for up to 120 days per year. Afterwards, customers are shifted to pay-per-use pricing.

For someone who isn’t on one of the Premium plans, Videotron still offers its ‘Daily Traveller Pass.’ This product offers daily roaming options giving users access to their entire plan, including talk, text and data buckets while traveling to the U.S. and 100 destinations across the globe.

If travelling in the U.S, the traveller pass costs $6 per day up to a maximum of 10 days per billing cycle. In other countries the costs raises to $10 per day for up to 20 days per billing cycle.

Additionally, the company offers its pay-per-use rates. In the U.S., pay-per-use rates amount to:  $0.15 per MB, $0.30 per minute and $0.15 per outgoing text.

Earlier this month, Videotron competition Bell recently increased its Canada-U.S. plans. These plans now start at $75 and go up to $100 BYOD. If the user would like to add data to the plan, 3GB of data (as there is a 2GB promotion for new customers) will cost $100 per month.

Meanwhile, Telus offers Canada-U.S. plans starting at $85 for 1GB of data. Rogers does not have any Canada-U.S. options.
