TELUS launching 4G wireless network in March… Video demo in action

Back in December TELUS announced they will be launching HSPA+ Dual Cell technology that reaches download speeds of 42 megabits per second (Mbps). Today they have announced their first device will be the Sierra Wireless AirCard 319U 4G Internet Key in March. They state on the dedicated site that coverage will be in the following areas: Greater Vancouver Area, Calgary, Edmonton, Ft. McMurray, Whistler, Camrose, Winnipeg, Greater Toronto Area.

I’m currently at an event at TELUS and they Eros Spadotto, executive vice-president of Technology Strategy at TELUS stated that there will be between “one and two hand fulls of 4G handsets by the end of 2011”.

Update: Getting back to the coverage area. Eros said that the continual build-out of the “4G” network will go from “west to east” and “will take some time”.

Eros Spadotto, executive vice-president of Technology Strategy at TELUS stated “Canada is an innovation leader in communications technology, and TELUS is at the forefront, bringing our customers the most advanced wireless technology available. Dual Cell is just the latest example of our commitment to offer our clients the latest and greatest available technology. This upgrade means our customers can enjoy faster speeds when they want to be entertained on-the-go, stay in touch with family and friends, visit their favourite social media sites, stay connected to business contacts wherever they are, and access healthcare information and applications at their fingertips.”

Update: Check out the video of their 4G network in action.
