Over 1500 apps have been submitted to BlackBerry App World, 6600 developers registered in last two weeks

Last week, RIM began a promotion for developers to convert their existing apps to run on the Playbook, for which they would receive a free 16GB tablet. The offer was so successful that it has been extended until the end of March 2nd, though developers must register before midnight of February 15th.

How successful was the promo? Over 1,500 apps have been converted and submitted for review in the last couple weeks, and there are 6600 registered developers jonesing for a chance to submit their apps. There is such a big backlog that apps are expected to take an extra few days to be reviewed.

In addition, the offer has been extended past Android developers to all apps written in Native C/C++, HTML5, Adobe AIR, and Qt, which, along with Java, runs the gamut of non-iOS coding languages.

If you’re interested in signing up for the offer, head over to the BlackBerry Vendor Portal.
