Huawei to unveil its “Emotion UI” on June 9th, to compete with Sense and TouchWIZ

Huawei’s Ascend D Quad is supposed to be released sometime this summer, and it will ship with Ice Cream Sandwich. When the phone debuted it was running an unsullied version of Ice Cream Sandwich, but it seems that Huawei, in order to better compete with Samsung, HTC and LG, is to launch a custom Android skin called “Emotion UI.”

While we don’t have many details of what will be different — the teaser image suggests that it incorporates Google’s stock launcher — we’re curious to know why Huawei decided to go ahead with this change, which will likely lead to update delays and further fragmentation issues. They had the opportunity to release one of the only non-Nexus devices with stock Ice Cream Sandwich.

Huawei claims that it has taken users’ suggestions into consideration and, like Samsung’s Nature UX, is “smart,” “simple,” and “emotional.” We also hope it’s “good” and “light.” The skin is set to ship in July along with the Ascend D and Ascend P, and we’re hoping to see those devices in Canada soon.
