Let the small players have a say!

The federal government decided to open the “possibility of greater competition” from smaller regional players, such as Yak Communications, Look Communications & MTS. This move is expected to assist in increasing wireless competition and bring even more choice and competitive pricing to cell phone users. The auction not until next May, giving the big three companies who currently control 95 per cent of the market to get loyal customers to stay.

Federal Industry Minister Jim Prentice declared to “putting consumers first” and that the wireless-communications auction will include wavelengths reserved for new carriers only and asked Bell, Telus and Rogers to share their antenna towers for a period of 10 years.
