Rogers, Fido to open early & offers iPhone data promo

Rogers Wireless & Fido have decided to open their doors 2 hours early and offer a 6GB data plan “limited time promotional offer” for customers that want the much talked about release of the Apple iPhone 3G.

The following Rogers Plus stores will open at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11:
Toronto: 112-10 Dundas Street East
Montreal: 1015 rue St. Catherine Ouest
Ottawa: 690 Bank Street
Halifax: Unit 265, 7001 Mumford Road
Calgary: 5244 Falsbridge Gate, NE
Vancouver: 2097 West Broadway

Fido will have its flagship store at 1004 rue St. Catherine Ouest, Montreal.

For the data promo: “customers who activate by August 31 on a 3 year contract, a data-only offering of 6GB of data for $30 per month is being made available that can be added to any in-market voice plan. For example, with 6GB of data, iPhone 3G users can visit 35,952 web pages, or send and receive 157,286 emails, or watch 6,292 minutes of YouTube videos each and every month.”

Oh yes – if you are going to the July 11th launch day events Rogers will treat you to a “early bird breakfast”.

John Boynton, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless said: “As Canada’s leading wireless carrier, Rogers is excited to bring iPhone 3G to Canadians even sooner, allowing our customers to be amongst the first in the world to experience this amazing mobile innovation. To celebrate its launch on Canada’s fastest wireless network, we’re rolling out the red carpet with special events at six Rogers Plus stores and a limited time price promotional data offer from coast-to-coast.”

“Fido is excited to bring iPhone 3G to Canadians with the choice of even more data,” said Sylvain Roy, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Fido. “iPhone 3G is the perfect device to complement our customers’ urban lifestyle, with its amazing web browsing capabilities, iconic design and interface, and
high speed network access.”

**UPDATE**

“Company spokeswoman Elizabeth Hamilton also notes that the 6GB plan isn’t limited to the iPhone 3G and will apply to any 3G-capable smartphone sold by Rogers or Fido during the timespan, including the BlackBerry Bold. The official also doesn’t expect the discount to last past the August 31st cut-off date. Such news points to the $30 deal primarily overcoming concerns over a dampened iPhone 3G launch rather than a long-term solution.”
