Nokia and Qualcomm Settle Issues, sign 15 year deal

After 1-day in court over patent infringements, Nokia and Qualcomm have settled their legal battles which has resulted in Nokia to assign ownership of a number of patents to Qualcomm, and pay an upfront (undisclosed) payment.

The new 15 year agreement covers various technologies such as GSM, EDGE, CDMA, WCDMA, HSDPA, OFDM, WiMax, and LTE. “Nokia has been granted a license under all Qualcomm’s patents for use in Nokia’s mobile devices and Nokia Siemens Networks infrastructure equipment.” Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of Nokia Corporation said “We believe that this agreement is positive for the industry, enabling the market to benefit from innovation and new technologies.”

Paul Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm said “I’m very pleased that we have come to this important agreement.”
