At the First Annual BlackBerry Mobile GIS Awards (geographic information system), Nova Scotia Power was awarded an innovation award for is using Blackberry Storms and Freeance Standard software while in the field. The reason is that they are collecting technical data on their distribution system which gives them a better viewpoint of the impact of storms… ultimately being able to dispatch line crews in emergencies faster and deal with customers more effectively.

Brian Shannon, project manager from Nova Scotia Power said “This is a real honour for our team. We are humbled that what we thought of as a very practical work process has been recognized as an international leading innovation. Our focus was to improve our model of the electrical distribution system in order to help enhance service reliability for customers.”
