BlackBerry Curve 8520 Unboxed & Hardware Review

rogers8520-officialWe got our hands on the latest release by Rogers, the BlackBerry 8520 Curve. There are a few good points about this right off the top. First it’s a super affordable entry level BlackBerry at $99.99 on a 3-year contract. Second, the new trackpad makes it easier to navigate your way through your device.

In this first review we took a bit of time to unbox the 8520 Curve and also took a quick look into the hardware. The overall dimensions are 109 x 60 x 13.9 and weighs in at 106 grams.  What’s new about the Curve is not just the trackpad, but the media keys that are located on the top of the device (Play/Pause/Must, Track forward and track back), a 3.5 mm headset jack is located on the left hand side of the device and is now standard on BlackBerry devices.

Missing is the dedicated lock button so make sure you are careful when putting this in your pockets or bag as you don’t want to make unwanted calls etc. The 8520 has a 2.4 inch QVGA screen with a resolution of 320×240 and comes with a 2 megapixel camera – no flash – but can take videos. With a microSD card this can hold up to 16GB of memory.

In our full review in a few days we’ll follow up with feedback of the trackpad, internet, e-mail, music, camera/videos etc. For now, check out the 8520 here:
