Public Mobile: “what you say on your phone is more important than what your phone says about you”

It seems like it’s taking forever for Public Mobile to launch and even with the delays, now targeting mid-2010 sounds even longer. I guess building a network from scratch takes a bit more effort than simply putting towers up. Everyday gets closer and today they’ve added some new features to their website, specifically when it comes to their plans, phones and coverage. No new info is added just fancy animation.

Under the “Our Plans” section they continue to give greater insight into their desired target market by saying “Seems like everyone has a mobile phone in their hands these days but actually, there are a lot of us that have yet to join the conversation yet. At Public Mobile we want to make it affordable for more people to talk more. That’s why we created unlimited talk and text for a flat rate of just $40 per month. No credit check. No contract. No surprises. No kidding.”

So far it sounds like all the carriers are saying the same thing! Under the animation of “Our Phones” and “Coverage”, it states “At Public Mobile we think that what you say on your phone is more important than what your phones says about you. And we know that everybody has their own way of saying things. We have phones for people who love to chat. People who think out loud. And people who talk with their hands… You might be wondering what will unlimited talking and texting mean for me? Are there really no limits? Can I just talk for as long as I want, whenever I want?… We want you to talk as much as you like, with whoever you like, whenever you like.”

So clearly Public will have no high end devices. With this we remember waaaayyyy back in April of last year when CEO of Public Mobile Alek Krstajic said they will offer a $40 “unlimited flat-rate talk and text package, with no term commitment, no credit checks, no fine print and no surprises…there will be a lot of places to get a phone from us, we will be where our value conscious segment lives, works and plays. I don’t think you’ll see us in the traditional high-end malls because our segment doesn’t actually shop there. I think you’ll see us do some very interesting things on distribution, it’s a bit of the secret sauce… you will see us in strip malls, yes”.

So nothing has really changed in almost a year!! The only new info was a couple weeks ago when Krstajic was on the TV show The Lang & O’Leary Exchange and gave more insight into their plans. The $40 is the basic talk and text plan. Krstajic said “To the U.S. it’s $5.00 flat rate. If you want unlimited Canadian long distance it’s a $5.00 add on. If you want unlimited U.S. long distance it’s another $5.00 add on”.

Who’s excited for Public Mobile to launch? We just want them to launch… do you?
