Shaw selects NSN to build out wireless network

Shaw won 18 licences and spent $189 million during the Canadian Wireless Spectrum Auction and are planning to launch their service late 2011. Back in April CEO & Vice Chair Jim Shaw said “we are accelerating our Wireless capital spend and expect to invest approximately $100 million in fiscal 2010.”

We guessing most of this spending will be invested with Nokia Siemens Networks as that’s who Shaw has chosen to help build out their network. In a release Shaw said that NSN will “provide the radio access network and core equipment” and that “the equipment from NSN will be fully 3G and LTE capable, giving Shaw a variety of options to deliver broadband wireless services to customers using the Advanced Wireless Services (“AWS”) band, as well as future frequency bands.”

Everyone looking forward to a bit more competition in Canada?
