Saudi Arabian government turns off BlackBerry data services

Waterloo-based RIM cannot be happy this morning. There are reports that the Saudi Arabian government has moved forward and shut down BlackBerry data services. There were national security concerns from the Saudi Communications & Information Technology Commission because the service didn’t meet their regulatory requirements. The government ordered their 3 mobile carriers to block the service or be forced to pay a $1.3 million fine. There are over 700,000 BlackBerry users in Saudi Arabia and one user stated “It has stopped”.
