Gartner report shows the Android revolution is in full effect

Gartner has released some impressive global mobile stats… it gives a good indication of where the industry is heading. Their reports shows that Q2 had an increase of 13.8% compared to last year. This relates to a massive 325.6 million mobile units shipped. Want more impressive stats? Smartphone users now account for 19% of worldwide mobile device sales (up 50.5% from last year) to 61.6 million units.

The top 5 mobile manufactures stack up in this order: Nokia (34.2% marketshare), Samsung (20.1% marketshare), LG (9% marketshare), RIM (3.4% marketshare), Sony Ericsson (3.4% marketshare). But the most impressive statistic is how dominant Google’s Android OS is becoming. Taking a look at the chart shows the “End User Operating System” that the only 2 platforms to increase their market share were Android (increase of 15.4% over last year) and iOS (increase of 1.2% over last year).
