Google snatches up Toronto-based mobile game developer SocialDeck

SocialDeck is a Toronto-based mobile game developer that was founded in 2008 and have titles such as Shake and Spell, Color Connect and Pet Hero. Today it was announced that they’ve been acquired by Google for an disclosed amount. The company raised its first round of financing in 2009 by the BlackBerry Partners Fund and developed simultaneous game play for the iPhone, Facebook, and BlackBerry platforms. They currently have over 1 million downloads for their games and their “technology also facilitates viral content discovery, distribution and monetization”. So perhaps Google was interested for in-game mobile advertising.

Google Canada spokeswoman Wendy Rozeluk said “SocialDeck’s team and technology is a perfect addition to our current team of engineers in Waterloo, to continue to innovate in the social and mobile web”.
