Vidéotron: “We’re not here to create a price war. The war has already started”

Quebec has always been a hotbed of competition with Bell having the most market share, followed by Rogers then TELUS. One of the most anticipated 3G+ network launches this year is Quebecor’s Vidéotron who are poised to go live this September.

Vidéotron will come to the table and offer low cost plans and bundling options. They currently dominate with their cable and internet offering and are catching up to Bell with their home phone business. Vidéotron will offer their “Winning Formula” which is based on a 4-point approach: Ubiquity, Price, Quality and Synergy and bundle their services to offer customers better prices, more value and choice. At the 2010 Canadian Telecom Summit Robert Depatie President & CEO of Vidéotron said “We will offer price plans that are competitive. Indeed, Vidéotron already offers some of the best price plans in North America. Still looking for deals? We offer better deals to customers who already Vidéotron’s services. The more of our services you have the better the deal we can offer.”

Article by the Globe’s Iain Marlow quotes Dépatie saying “We’re not here to create a price war. The war has already started”. Recently Bell offered a specific $100 price reduction for those located in Quebec to sign a 3-year contract. Also, new wireless entrant Public Mobile has set up shop in Montreal and offers low cost devices and plans. No word on how many customers have signed up but the point is that they’re bringing on important customers who are not with the incumbents.

It’s a battle out there and this is exactly what the government wanted. More competition and lower wireless prices. For those located in Quebec, who are leaning towards supporting?
