TELUS HSPA customers experiencing SMS delays due to 3rd party iPhone app (Updated)

If you’re with TELUS you might be one of the customers who are experiencing texting issues. They’re working on the issue and will be resolved shortly. According to the internal email we received it’s “impacting all HSPA customers” mostly in the Eastern region and the reason is due to a 3rd party iPhone app that’s hammering on their network. As of last night at 7:30pm over 300,000 messages we waiting to be delivered and we understand people are still having delay issues.

Thanks to a tipster, here’s the e-mail we received:

Situation: due to a third-party iPhone application flooding our network, about 3:30 p.m. Eastern all HSPA customers were no longer able to send or receive SMS messages. The issue is impacting all HSPA customers as of 7:30 p.m. more than 300,000 messages were stuck in our queue.

Messaging: Late this afternoon some TELUS customers started experiencing delays with SMS services. We are aware of the issue, and are working to restore service to all customers as quickly as possible. * If all goes well, we anticipate all service will be restored later today or overnight.

The issue was caused by a third party wireless application flooding TELUS’ network with data. We are in touch with that company, and working with them to address that issue.  * We are not at liberty to disclose the third party.

Are you still experiencing delays?

UPDATE: We’ve been informed that the issue has now been resolved.
