Galaxy S upgrade to OS 2.2 being “gradually rolled out” to North America

The good news is that Samsung has announced that an upgrade to the Galaxy S series of devices is being pushed out effective “mid-October”, so any time now. However, this is only for the Nordic region first. For us Canadians we are slotted in the “gradually rolled out” status along with other markets such as Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Asia. Hopefully gradually means soon.

As for the upgrades, you can expect: voice-controlled GPS through Google Maps with Navigation, Android 2.2 JIT compiler (Just in Time), Search in-browser, video now records in MP4 format, GPS fix, new Android Market with auto-updating, Improved Exchange support, Colored settings icons, and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 compatibility.

When this does official come to North America you’ll be able to download the 2.2 upgrade via Kies (Samsung’s software upgrade program) at samsungmobile.com.
