Videotron Q3 results: Subscriber base grows to 95,400

When Videotron launched their new network they also came out with a slew of new devices and plans – some being “infinite” plans that are unlimited. Quebec is currently a hotbed for wireless competition and after Videotron launched their plans we also saw every carrier come out with their “Unlimited Quebec” offering.

Yesterday parent company Quebecor announced their Q3 results and so did Videotron. Reading over both reports it gives insights into how many subscribers are actually on their new network – the bottom line is that they are bringing in customers that would have normally chosen the incumbents or possibly new entrant Public Mobile.

According to the Quebecor Q3 report:
“Videotron Ltd. (“Videotron”) successfully launches advanced mobile services network (“3G+ network”) on September 9, 2010. As of September 30, 2010, three weeks after the launch, there are 21,900 subscriber connections on the new network, including 11,000 migrations from the mobile virtual network operator (“MVNO”) service.”

And the Videotron release:
“After terminating new activations on its Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) service and launching its mobile services, Videotron logged 8,400 net additions to its mobile telephone service in the third quarter, bringing the total to 95,400 subscriber connections. The numbers would be higher if Videotron had been able to fully meet the demand for smartphones.”

With these numbers it means that in the 3-weeks after Videotron launched their new network (September 9th) to the end of their Q3 (September 30th) 23% of their subscriber base is now on the new 3G+ network.
