Emergency “Reverse 911” service coming to Montreal in June (landlines first, then wireless & text)

Montreal will be implementing what’s being dubbed as “Reverse 911” this summer. This is a mandatory emergency service that will alert Montrealers of any risk to their public safety (life, health or safety concerns). The reverse 911 service will first be rolled out to landlines such as home phone and offices but later support wireless devices and text messages. In addition, the city plans to eventually add Facebook and Twitter to the mix too. This initiative will cost the City of Montreal $140,000 to launch with recurring costs of $23,000 per year.
