Update: WIND to release the Huawei E1691 data stick at $80 no-contract, February 10th


Last week WIND announced they will be releasing a new data stick soon – the WINDspeed Huawei E1691. This can reach download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and 5.6 Mbps upload speeds, has overall dimensions of 82 mm x 27 mm x 13 mm with a weight of 31grams. A price point has been revealed that comes in $20 cheaper than their current data stick at $80 no-contract.

Update: Thanks to one of our tipsters for letting us know that WIND will be releasing the February 10th, 2011. Customers we able to reserve the stick a week ago and here’s more info from an internal doc we received:

· In order to reserve a WINDspeed E1691 data stick, the customer must purchase a SIM card in store for $25 and activate it with the $25 Infinite Laptop Special Edition plan. Prior to purchasing and activating the SIM card, the customer’s expectations must be properly set with the following information:
– Once activated, their SIM card is non-refundable.
– When their data stick arrives, they will be contacted by the store and will have 72 hours to return to the store to purchase it.
– When they return to the store to purchase their data stick they will receive an instant $40 discount on the price of the stick to compensate them for the price of the SIM card as well as some of the service charges that they may have incurred.
