Mobilicity creates “industry’s first Data Access Fee/Tax (DAFT)”

Mobilicity just issued the following press release about an upcoming fee they will start to charge their customers. In true Mobilicity style they have come back again with a bold quote (almost beats the rat quote): “We join the Big Three wireless providers in charging customers extra fees as we look to maximize our profitability”. What do you think of the name… leave the comments below.

April 1 Alert: Mobilicity to introduce Data Access Fee/Tax
Rising carrier reconsiders need to charge extra fees

TORONTO, April 1 /CNW/ – Mobilicity today said it would introduce the industry’s first Data Access Fee/Tax (DAFT) as its highly successful $10 unlimited data add-on continues to gain popularity with consumers across Canada.

“We join the Big Three wireless providers in charging customers extra fees as we look to maximize our profitability,” said Vice President, Marketing, Sara Moore.

Effective tomorrow, the monthly $4.01 DAFT will join the System Access Fee (SAF) and Government Regulatory Recovery Fee (GRRF) as the newest extra fee in the Canadian wireless landscape.

The DAFT will only be applicable on Mobilicity’s data add-on. The $10 unlimited data add-on provides customers with the ability to access the Internet to check email, surf the web and visit social networking sites for the equivalent of an average 33 cents a day – without the risk of getting an expensive bill for using more data than is included in their plan.
