Update: Poynt user base now over 8.3 million

I love hearing about growing Canadian tech companies. Earlier this week it was Toronto-based Polar Mobile making more headway in the app business, now it’s Calgary-based Poynt Corp. Today they announced their Q1 2011 results and showed revenues increased 178% over last year to $535,716 (compared to $192,450 in 2010). However, according to the release “the net loss for the quarter ended March 31, 2011 was $3,762,079 or ($0.01) per basic share, as compared to a net loss of $8,952,687, or ($0.05) per basic share in the same period of 2010″… so it seems there’s more work that needs to be done still.

In regards to specifics of their location based Poynt app, this “continues to see strong growth on all platforms” as it’s available for free on the iPhone, Android, Nokia, Windows Phone 7, BlackBerry smartphones and the PlayBook in Canada, US, Europe and Australia. User numbers have also increased to 6,814,793 and specifically saw “an average of 30,000 new users daily during the month of February 2011”.

Update: We received word from Poynt that “the 6,814,793 figure you sited was accurate at the end of Q1 – Poynt’s user base has since grown to over 8.3 million users (and growing)”.
