HTC to release a new tablet next year, aims to “make ourselves stand out and prevent a me-too product”

Research firm Gartner recently predicted that Apple will be the runaway leader in the tablet market this year, capturing 73.4% market share, and will continue to its position until 2015. The “tablet” computer has been around for years, but gain popularity when Apple released the iPad. Other manufacturers scrambled to follow their path, such as the HP TouchPad, LG Optimus Pad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, BlackBerry PlayBook, Sony Tablet S and the HTC Flyer and LTE-capable Jetstream.

So there are many to choices out there and some manufacturers are claiming that others have resorted to copying “technology, user interface and innovative style” to catch up and gain market share. However, HTC has intentions to possibly set themselves apart next year – a report in Reuters states that HTC CEO Peter Chou believes in the tablet and will release something new next year, but didn’t give any specific details such as design, nor OS (Android, Windows 8 or possibly their own). Chou stated that “Tablet is a market we would like to try and test, to see whether we can make ourselves stand out and prevent a me-too product”.
