Leaked BlackBerry Bold 9900 firmware brings WiFi hotspot support

We don’t usually report on leaked BlackBerry firmwares — they’re not official, nor completely reliable — but this one is just too good to pass up.

When the BlackBerry 7 fleet of devices was released earlier this year, RIM promised eventual WiFi hotspot support build right in. Since that heady summer night, we’ve been waiting and waiting, and while this version has not been certified by any carrier, it should be fine for anyone who knows his or her way around the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Sitting at version 7.1.0.74, it should theoretically also include the new BlackBerry Tags feature, which takes advantage of the phone’s built-in NFC capabilities. Get it while it’s hot, as the download links usually get pulled pretty quickly. If you do manage to install it, report back and let us know how it’s working for you!
