RIM rumoured to launch five BBX devices in 2012: London, Lisbon, Milan, Nevada, Black Forest

2012 could become a very interesting year for RIM, hopefully better than this fluctuating year has been. BBX powered smartphones will be what RIM is all about in 2012. We’ve already seen a picture of the sleek looking BlackBerry “London” appear, this was formally called the “Colt” , and apparently this could launch in March.

Back in April, RIM co-Ceo Jim Balsille stated that “we absolutely have a whole next generation of smartphones”. Maybe he was speaking about these new leaked BBX codenames that CrackBerry has revealed: “London,” “Lisbon,” “Milan,” “Nevada,” and “Black Forest.” The Milan has an internal code number of R071 and could be a variant of the “London”, possibly heading to Rogers (or really any Canadian carrier these days). There are no specific detail for the Lisbon yet, but early rumours are that it might be a slider of some sort. The BBX-powered “Nevada” brings back the familiar BlackBerry styling with a full QWERTY keyboard, and could look like the Bold 9900, but taller with a rumoured release around the November time frame.

A couple months ago, after speculation that RIM was going to end production of the PlayBook, RIM quickly issued a press release stating the claim was false and that they remain “highly committed to the tablet market”. So, the final code name in the leaked report shows a BBX product called the BlackBerry “Forest”. This is rumoured to be a 10-inch PlayBook with a slight re-design that could have edgier corners – not so smooth an generic looking like the 7-inch PlayBook.

Five BBX devices is a solid start to putting RIM back on track, hopefully further details – specifically specs – and pictures surface. This would be a nice gift to everyone to end the year.
