Top 200 free apps in Apple’s App Store downloaded over 5 million times per day in November

This is an incredible number. According to Fiksu, an apps analytics firm, there was an 83% jump in app downloads between November 2010 and November 2011, culminating in a staggering 5 million per day for the top 200 free apps. While app downloads were slowly declining over time, they spiked with the release of the iPhone 4S and iOS 5, both of which created a new urgency for app developers and downloaders alike.

Overall, total downloads averaged 5.65 million per day for the month of November, up from 4.91 million in October and a yearly low of 3.78 million in May.

With analysts predicting 30 million iPhone purchases in the quarter ending December 2011, and with over 3 million activations on Christmas alone, there is going to be an influx of new users to the iOS ecosystem, leading to its most successful month ever. That being said, it’s in paid apps where developers make their money (at least on iOS) or, as is increasingly popular, in-app purchases.
