SaskTel improves 4G network, “Call drops have been reduced to under 1%, with call completions at 98%”


Over the past few months SaskTel 4G customers were complaining of “calls not going through or calls being dropped”. To remedy the “network congestion issues”, SaskTel installed several COWS (Cellular On Wheels) and performed maintenance to their towers/cell sites. In a press release SaskTel stated “Holy COW Ongoing Enhancements Have Improved 4G!” and also declared expanded coverage into 11 more areas. SaskTel now claims that there is “an approximate 50% overall capacity improvement”, which has resulted in the number of dropped calls to be “reduced to under 1%, with call completions at 98%”. To keep them clear of any further customer disappointments, SaskTel put a gentle reminder that “wireless technology will never be 100% reliable”. In addition, here’s the list of the new coverage area:

– Candle Lake Northwest: provides coverage to the northwest end of Candle Lake Provincial Park
– Carnduff: provides coverage within the town of Carnduff
– Dinsmore: provides coverage to the town of Dinsmore and the surrounding area including highways 42 & 44
– Dinsmore Coteau Hills: provides coverage to the area south of Dinsmore including highway 42
– Hazel Dell: provides coverage to the area between Kelvington and Preeceville including highway 49
– MacDowall: provides coverage to the area southwest of Prince Albert including highway 11
– Mankota: provides coverage to Mankota and the surrounding area including highways 18 and 19
– Rapid View: provides coverage to the area west of Meadow Lake including the town of Rapid View and highway 55
– Shoal Lake: provides coverage to the community of Shoal Lake northeast of Melfort
– Willow Brook: provides coverage to the area west of Yorkton including highway 52
