Toronto 911 operators received 107,000 pocket−dials in 2011

“Pocket dialing”, the act of accidentally dialing a number while your mobile phone is in your pocket, is a frustrating experience. Those on the receiving end usually hear static and background noise. For 911 operators it’s a waste of time. The Toronto Police are on a new mission today and have come out with a campaign called “Lock It Before You Pocket”. On their website they have released some Pocket dialing stats: Over 2,100 pocket dials are made each week to Toronto 911 operators, and that “last year in Toronto, 107,000 pocket−dials were made to 9−1−1 and 116,000 calls to 9−1−1 were misdials”. Those are some serious numbers, especially if somebody who actually needed emergency help was delayed… “Lock It Before You Pocket”.
