Asus releases update to initial Ice Cream Sandwich ROM to fix GPS and graphics issue

Asus has released a new version of its Android 4.0.3 ROM for the Transformer Prime, build V9.4.2.11-20110117, in order to fix some issues users have been experiencing with the tablet’s GPS and graphics glitches. Many users are reportedly unable to obtain a GPS fix despite being outside and connected to WiFi. Though the tablet has been updated from Honeycomb to Ice Cream Sandwich, the GPS issues persisted, forcing Asus to act quickly in releasing a fix.

I loaded it on my newly-purchased Transformer Prime and can vouch for the improvements in GPS accuracy: whereas before I couldn’t get a signal at all the Transformer picks it up, even indoors, in less than ten seconds.

The new build should be rolling out to users over the next few days, but they’ve made it available on their website, too. It is a 350MB file since it is a full ROM and not just an update, but the OTA fix should be much smaller. If you’re feeling brave, head on over to Asus’ website to download it. Remember to check whether your Transformer Prime build is the one entitled WW_epad-9.X.X.X_2012xxxx or US_epad-9.X.X.X_2012xxxx, as we have reports that some Canadians retailers have received both versions.

Disclaimer: Flashing the wrong version can brick your device. Please be careful! It may be better to wait for the correct version to roll out over the air.
