Asus delays Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for original Transformer again, coming “within the Feb/March 2012 period”

We know a lot of users will be disappointed with the news that Asus has once again delayed the release of its ICS upgrade for original Transformer TF101 users. No explanation was given on their Facebook page other than to say,

We are informed that the ICS upgrade for TF101 will be ready within the Feb/March 2012 period. You will be able to receive the upgrade notification via FOTA once we have a confirmation date. We thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

We’re going to chalk up the protraction to getting Ice Cream Sandwich stable on the Tegra 2 hardware, but that’s just a guess. Regardless the reason, Asus had promised an upgrade in mid-February, soon after the ICS rollout for the Transformer Prime. That time period has come and gone, so knowing it may be pushed back for another month will not make its users very happy.

If you’re desperate to try Ice Cream Sandwich on your Transformer, there is a work-in-progress custom ROM available, though you’ll have to forgo GPS, camera and sensor functionality.
