Sony Xperia U “Kumquat” pictures surface, looks to be a Xperia S mini

Sony Ericsson may have been teased last year for releasing the pint-sized Xperia ray so soon after the Xperia arc, but they clearly must have had some success with the product to be readying a successor. The Xperia U, aka Kumquat, aka ST25i, has seen its fair share of leaks, but here we have some high-quality photos contrasting it to the 4.3-inch Xperia S.

The Xperia U is expected to have a 1Ghz dual-core processor, 3.5-inch 854×480 screen and a 5MP camera running Android 4.0.3 when it debuts. It also has that stunning build quality that we loved so much when we went hands-on with the Xperia S. The Xperia U also looks to have a dedicated shutter button and a 1290mAh removable battery. Strangely, the leaked sample still has the Sony Ericsson branding on it, but that’s expected to change before its debut now that the deal has finally gone through.

Expect an official announcement during Mobile World Congress, but for now enjoy some of the photos. A couple more after the break.
