Acer Iconia A500 gets leaked Ice Cream Sandwich ROM

For those of you too impatient to wait until April for the official Android 4.0.3 update to the Acer Iconia A500, this is your lucky day. A leaked version which is supposed to be retail, or at least a Release Candidate, of Android 4.0.3 has leaked and the enterprising folks over at XDA-Developers have worked their various magics on it to become a flashable ROM.

Now, there be dragons ahead for those who don’t want to wait: going to this version wipes out root and overwrites the recovery, making it difficult to return to previous versions. The developers say it should be a few days to a week for them to sort out all the bootloader issues, but bookmark the page if you’re eager to give it a go. Apparently the ROM is also compatible with the 3G-enabled Rogers Acer Iconia A501 but you won’t have access to 3G when it’s loaded.

If you do decide to take the plunge ahead of time, please let us know how it works.
