Asus rebrands tablets to Transformer Pad series, launches Infinity with 1920×1200 display

Asus has been taking the Samsung route with its latest Transformer series: releasing a tablet for every segment of the market. They’ve also rebranded, removing the ‘EeePad’ from their name. Earlier this week they announced the Transformer Pad 300 Series, the “low-end” unit in the second-gen Transformer line-up with a 1.2Ghz Tegra 3 processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 10.1-inch 1280×800 IPS display. It also comes with an 8MP camera and optional keyboard dock. It will come in an optional LTE flavour, too. This will fit right under the Transformer Prime in price.

The Transformer Infinity series, on the other hand, is the flagship device, with a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 Super IPS+ display. It will come in two flavours: WiFi-only and 3G/LTE, and depending on which model you get they will have different chips. The WiFi version will be outfitted with a 1.6Ghz Tegra 3 processor (quad-core) while the LTE-capable version will have  a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 processor (dual-core), though the verdict is out on which one performs better in real-world scenarios.

Its 10.1-inch Super IPS+ HD display emits an astounding 600nits of backlight luminance, and has 178-degree viewing angles, so it should be one of the brightest and most visible-in-sunlight tablets ever released. It comes in a hair thicker than the Transformer Prime, probably due to the larger LCD panel, but weighs essentially the same. The Transformer Pad Infinity will come in either 32 or 64GB of internal storage, a l0w-aperture 8MP camera sensor around back and 2MP lens on the front. The optional keyboard dock will add around six hours of battery life to the existing 10 hours.

We don’t have a release date or price for either the Transformer Pad 300 or Transformer Pad Infinity, but we’ll guess sometime in the Spring.
