Payfirma Mobile Payment app for Android now available

Vancouver-based Payfirma developed a mobile payment app last year that allows businesses to accept customer payments via iOS or BlackBerry device. Merchants would have to sign up, plug in the optional card reader, and payout 1.99% + 25c per transaction. The company has now recognized the power of Android and launched a free app. According to the description, Payfirma says the app requires OS 2.2 and up and all major credit cards are accepted (Visa, American Express, MasterCard, Discover, JCB, and China Union Pay).

Mobile payments will be getting a big push this year, banks are slowly offering various features in their mobile apps (pay bills, transfer funds, find ATMs). In addition, various companies have started to offer a mobile payment system via smartphones. Last week PayPal announced “PayPal Here”, plus there’s also Moneris’ “PAYD”. From a business standpoint it’ll come down to the signup process and transaction fees (PayPal is 2.7% of the transaction, PAYD is 2.95% per transaction). From a consumer viewpoint, we just want security and a brand we can trust.
