Sony says the Xperia S “is shipping globally,” still no confirmed word from a Canadian carrier

During CES Sony announced the Xperia S and declared that it’ll be “released globally” in March. Today on the company blog Sony states the Xperia S “is shipping globally as I type this”. Unfortunately, they also say they are leaving it up to “local operators the chance to tell you about specific availability and pricing in individual markets”. This Android is expected to come to Canada – carrier still unknown – but we’re hearing more details will be revealed in a couple weeks… so we’ll most likely see it first hit with the “coming soon” label, then fully launched in either April/May.

Specs of the Xperia S has it running Running Android 2.3.7, but will be upgraded to OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in Q2 2012. In addition, the S sports a 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, 1GB RAM, 4.3-inch 720p display and that memorable notification bar and its “anti-stain” shell.
