Bell doubling number of hours included in Mobile TV to 10, discontinuing viewing via Wi-Fi May 4th

Bell has be pushing customers to try their Mobile TV offering for the past couple months. They revamped their Mobile TV app, included more channels and even gave 5 hours of mobile for $5/month. Effective April 2nd Bell is going to double down the number of hours to 10 “at no additional cost.” This is for both Mobile TV/Tablet TV viewing. The internal doc also says that Bell has “Increased flexibility in how Mobile TV HBO hours can be used.” HBO Canada used to be an additional add-on, but now that they purchases Astral Media for $3.38 billion – the company who has the rights for HBO and TMN – it’s “now included in the total hours included with Mobile TV.”

Finally, watching Mobile TV on Wi-Fi will come to an end on May 4th. “Due to these enhancements, the ability to watch Mobile TV/Tablet TV over Wi-Fi is being discontinued as of May 4, 2012. This access was not widely promoted, and impacts are expected to be minimal.” Remember that any data overage when you’re watching Mobile TV comes in at $1/hour.

So look for the 10 hours of Mobile TV on April 2nd, then put a reminder in your calendar that on May 4th viewing via Wi-Fi will be discontinued.
