RIM sued by NXP for infringing on six patents

Guess what? Another patent infringement lawsuit has surfaced today against a mobile manufacturer. This time it’s Dutch-based semiconductor company NXP B.V. and they’re targeting Waterloo-based Research In Motion. Apparently NXP is debating that RIM infringed on 6 patents that pertain to specific phone designs and the transmission of data within those devices. The devices that are in question are their BlackBerry smartphones, but singled out as examples are the BlackBerry Torch, Curve and Bold. It’s unknown for now what model numbers, or if it’s all devices.

The lawsuit was filed in Florida and NXP is requesting RIM to stop infringing on their patents, plus seeking compensation and triple damages.
