Samsung has no plans for a 3D-capable smartphone

Despite persistent rumours to the contrary, Samsung will not be endeavouring to build a 3D-capable smartphone any time soon. A while ago, the Galaxy S III was rumoured to be coming with a 3D-enabled screen but a company spokesperson has quashed those rumours (and the dreams of many) in a statement to Engadget:

Although Samsung Electronics is constantly exploring new technologies for our mobile devices, we have no immediate plan to include displays featuring 3D technology in our upcoming smartphones.

Likely attempting to put the most absurd and marginal rumours to rest, Samsung is likely prepping a Galaxy S III that people are going to be excited for, but may be a bit more realistic than some of the outlandish predictions made so far. At least now we know that it will maintain the same 2D user experience we’ve gotten used to over the years. And if you’re a fan of 3D smartphones, there’s always LG’s upcoming Optimus 3D Cube.
