Sony Xperia S coming to Canada April 17th, exclusively available at the Sony Store

The Sony Xperia S was officially announced at CES this year and now it’s landing in Canada. This newest Android device by Sony seems to be taking a different route to get into customers hands. In the press release Sony said that their will be “a limited number of Xperia S smartphones will be available exclusively at Sony Stores across Canada, beginning April 17th.”

Perhaps this will be a trend – manufacturers first hitting their retail locations, then carriers. Apple does it with the iPhone, possibly Samsung might do with when the Galaxy S III launches at their upcoming retail location. As to the carrier of the Xperia S, Sony notes that it’s “compatible with the Rogers wireless network,” but not outright saying it’s an exclusive. So possibly it’s unlocked also compatible with other carriers.

There were no price points announced and the Xperia S will ship with Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread and will be upgradable to OS 4.0 later this year. Other specs have the Xperia S with a 4.3-inch Reality Display (1280 x 720), 12MP camera that takes 1080P HD videos, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 32GB storage, NFC, DLNA, HDMI and Wi-Fi.

Update: Since the press release didn’t have the price plan, we reached out to Sony and they’ve confirmed that the Xperia S will $99.99 on a 3-year with Rogers. No word on the no-term pricing yet.
