Angry Birds creator Rovio preparing IPO after $106m revenue in 2011

Rovio, the makers of Angry Birds, is preparing to go public this year after a banner 2011 which saw the company earn $106 million in revenue on 648 million downloads.

The company turned a very sizeable profit, too; its $67.6 million before-tax income equates to a rather enviable 64% profit margin. The number of Rovio employees spiked in 2011 fr0m 28 to 211.

Rovio is profitable in every department, it claims, including games, merchandise and advertising, and is working with 200 partners on licensing the Angry Birds franchise. While the press release did not outright announce an upcoming Initial Public Offering, Rovio’s head of investor relations claimed the company is “preparing itself and getting ready.”

They announced last month that its newest game, Angry Birds Space, was the fastest-growing mobile game of all time, marking 2012 as auspicious as the very-profitable year before.
