LG Optimus LTE 2 will have best shot, voice-activated shutter and HDR features

LG’s mysterious Optimus LTE 2 was announced the same day as the Galaxy S III in perhaps the poorest example of a soft launch in recent memory. The company was was very aware of this fact, however, as it highlighted only a few aspects of the phone’s hardware and is limiting its initial release to Korea.

But LG was emphatic about the phone’s advantages over the similarly-spec’d Galaxy S III: it will come with a True IPS LCD display (read: non-PenTile) and a massive 2GB of RAM, which may be more a curse than a blessing. The 2150mAh battery is the only other hard fact we know about the device, but a few leaked screenshots of the camera interface are giving us insight as to the phone’s ocular abilities.

Like the Galaxy S III, the Optimus LTE 2 will allow for a voice command to activate the shutter. The whole idea behind this is to prepare the idle posers for the best possible photo: yelling “CHEESE!” at the precise moment everyone is smiling and has their eyes open.

And, like HTC’s One Series devices, the Optimus LTE 2 will have an instant shutter with a “best shot” feature. The proliferation of this feature, present in both the One Series and SGS3, can be attributed to the dedicated to a combination of software improvements in Android Ice Cream Sandwich and more capable dual- and quad-core chips from Qualcomm and Samsung.

We don’t have word on whether the Optimus LTE 2 will come to Canada — we’re still waiting on the Optimus L7 from Rogers — but we’re excited for its prospects.
