Evernote 4.0 for Android brings new home screen and swipeable navigation

Evernote for Android got its biggest UI overhaul in a year recently with version 4.0. The app, which allows you to record notes, audio, sketch drawings or add photos, is the original cloud-sync notes app, and its ubiquity and popularity is a testament to the regular innovation seen in its mobile offerings.

The most notable change in Evernote 4.0 is a new home screen which allows you to swipe right to view your notes. It’s an intuitive and basic movement but provides quick access to existing notes while avoiding the problem of constantly having to press the back button. The note and notebook lists have also been re-done, with easier reading and navigation.

If you’ve never tried Evernote for taking notes on your Android device, it’s certainly one of the best options. It’s got some good competition in Catch Notes and Springpad, but Evernote has focused on doing what it does best — recording daily minutae — while the other products have tried to deviate from that original vision.
