ZTE 6.2mm ‘Athena’ to take world’s thinnest phone crown, adds 720p display and Ice Cream Sandwich

ZTE’s upcoming Athena handset is looking to take the title of ‘World’s Thinnest Handset’ from Huawei and Oppo. The unannounced ‘Athena’ handset boasts a thickness of 6.2mm but is able to cram in a 720p display and a Cortex-A15 chip of unknown speed.

The device may never leave China, but it’s an amazing feat considering all the technology inside of it. It’s making quite a big splash on China’s Twitter-like Sina Weibo, as ZTE is doing a pretty big teaser campaign for the face prior to its official announcement. The phone will also boast up to 64GB internal storage and a variant of Android 4.0.4 running ZTE’s skin called “Miflavor UI.”

It’s also got what looks like a Kevlar backing, similar to the Motorola RAZR, which is interesting. More to come on this handset soon, we hope.
